“Solidarity crime. The Borders of Democracy” is a documentary that raises awareness of the systematic policies of human rights violations against migrants and all those who have been in solidarity with them. The documentary presents their stories through interviews with migrants (at the borders of 14 cities and in 5 European countries), and with those who have been sanctioned and continue to suffer judicial persecution for facilitating – without any material benefit – the entry, transit or stay of migrants in an irregular situation. First it was the migrants, then the people in solidarity, who will be next?”

FICNOVA recognises the film’s effort to show how, in a world divided by borders, where goods have freedom of movement but people do not, the friendship of two children is stronger than the conditions imposed by governments.

It shows how Europe’s discriminatory economic system towards Africa is shaken by the simple strength of the true feelings of friendship of the youngest children who do not encounter barriers. A European child can cross the border hidden in a lorry “without problems” because of the unthinkable fate in fiction, but tragically we know the reverse discrimination suffered by thousands of people today.

A recognition of the real things that we need to strengthen in ourselves at the present time in the face of the madness of the barriers that separate human beings.

In recent years, in parallel to the securing of borders, the number of people who lose their lives trying to enter Europe has increased. These deaths are often reported when their bodies are washed up on Spanish beaches. In most cases, the protocol followed with these individuals is to register them, in the nearest cemetery, with the identifier of Young, Male, Black Race.
