“Nika, the tropical pilot whale” is a short documentary in which Felipe Ravina, a documentary-maker, scientist and graduate in Marine Sciences, forms a bond with a pilot whale named Nika on the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands). This unusual connection with the animal makes him increasingly concerned about the current state of the island and its biodiversity. He makes a passionate plea for the protection, conservation and defence of the natural habitats and wildlife in this outermost region, home to the largest population of tropical pilot whales – a species found nowhere else in the world.

FICNOVA recognises this film:
For presenting a powerful account of the need to protect species and live in harmony, in the face of the global spread of expansionist neoliberal models that turn everything into a business, as is also the case in the Canary Islands. A documentary that offers moments of silence and reflection on whether we want to live, and under what conditions we wish to do so.
