In 1993, thousands of Guatemalan refugees returned from Mexico. They fled armed conflict and genocide against the indigenous Mayan population. Today, ‘Los Regresados’ are defending their agricultural land and territory in the jungle of Alta Verapaz against the construction of a hydroelectric dam. They draw on their past experiences to mobilise new generations.
‘Los Retornados’ is a film by Tessa Boeykens and Pieter De Vos, in collaboration with the Copal AA La Esperanza community.
